Las Vegas Police: OJ is a Suspect, but What Else is New.

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on September 14, 2007

OJ, he hasn’t been in the news lately, but good things never last. It seems that slasher OJ has been named as a suspect in breaking into someones room at a casino, and stealing of all things, sports memorabilia.

“Investigators questioned O.J. Simpson and named him a suspect Friday in a break-in at a casino hotel room involving sports memorabilia.

The break-in was reported at the Palace Station casino late Thursday night, police spokesman Jose Montoya said. He said investigators determined the break-in involved sports collectibles.

“When they talked to him, Simpson made the comment that he believed the memorabilia was his,” Montoya said. “We’re getting conflicting stories from the two sides.”

Simpson was released after he and several associates were questioned, but he is considered a suspect in the case, Montoya said. He is believed to be in Las Vegas.

“We don’t believe he’s going anywhere,” he said.”

Of course he isn’t going anywhere, he’s probably broke. If he is cleared of these charges, maybe he can write a book titled “If I Broke Into A Casino Room”, because that other book deal went down faster than that intern Stephon Marbury did in the back of his SUV. Self high five…that was a cheap shot. ;)

“Simpson has had to auction off his sports collectibles, including his Heisman Trophy, to pay some of the $33.5 million judgment awarded to the Goldman family.

On Thursday, the Goldman family published a book about the killings that Simpson had written under the title, “If I Did It.” After a deal for Simpson to publish it fell through, the family bought the rights and retitled the book “If I Did It: The Confessions of a Killer.”

Investigators in the casino case planned to give their report to prosecutors Friday, Montoya said. The district attorney’s office will decide whether to pursue charges.”

Sweet title change. I’m tempted to check it out. Without knowing details of this present case, I can’t in good faith give an opinion as to whether the DA should prosecute, but I will say, I’m hoping that they do.

“The Palace Station, an aging property just west of the Las Vegas Strip, is one of several Station Casinos-owned resorts that cater to locals. The 1,000-room hotel-casino, with a 21-story tower and adjacent buildings, opened in 1976.”

Translation: it’s a dump.

So I profess on this day 9/14/07.

ESPN Isn’t Happy With the South Carolina Gamecocks, & Vice Versa

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on September 14, 2007

Pay attention USC fans I’m sticking up for you. Well Steve God Spurrier and the University of South Carolina have managed to tick off an entire network. It’s seems ESPN and the College GameDay crew aren’t happy about a promotional website and Macro Media Flash game (which can be found here) that uses Lee “Bad Picks” Corso’s words and image against him. Chris Fowler is whining & fighting back.

“If ESPN’s “GameDay” returns to Columbia, and that appears to be a big if, it would make for good theater.

When South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier called out announcer Chris Fowler on Tuesday for misquoting him, it was the latest salvo in what has been an occasional feud since Spurrier was hired three years ago.

Now the South Carolina athletics department is trying to have some fun at the expense of ESPN analyst Lee Corso. But Corso and Fowler do not appear amused.

Fowler expressed concern that USC has started a Web site called letsshowcorso.com, where fans can “throw” footballs at a likeness of Corso. Gamecock fans have been mad at Corso since the former coach declared Spurrier never would win an SEC title at South Carolina, “even if he coaches here 400 years.”

Corso declined to comment on the Web site, although he said Saturday on the air he would not “dignify it with a response.”

Fowler, the lead announcer on “GameDay,” backed his broadcast partner.

“I’m a little puzzled (about) the approach (of) marketing the team by attacking Lee,” Fowler said. “I don’t speak for him at all. But I think (Corso’s) reaction to the campaign was pretty evident if you saw the show.”

“I don’t speak for what that would mean for the likelihood of ‘GameDay’ coming there. But I can tell you it doesn’t increase the chances,” Fowler said. “If South Carolina continues to win games, it will always be on the radar for game shows. But it would be a consideration, to go somewhere the show has been targeted.”

Wah wah wah. First of all no one is targeting the show. Maybe Corso should have thought before speaking after all he himself essentially said that USC would never win an SEC title, ever. That in itself is labeling the school and it’s football program as a team that is destined to come in second place.

“USC athletics director Eric Hyman said the jabbing at Corso was meant in good fun. Since the Web site went up less than two weeks ago, it has received more than 300,000 hits, and Hyman said about 25,000 have tossed a virtual football at Corso.

“Did South Carolina, when (Corso) made some of the comments he made, did we return it?” Hyman said. “It’s fun, it’s an enjoyment.”

Hyman said he did not talk with ESPN before putting up the site, and he hasn’t since. It was conceived and created by USC and an outside marketing company that Hyman said included USC alums and members of the Gamecock Club.

As for a potential return trip to Columbia, the Nov. 10 game against Florida looms as a possibility.“We’ve always had really enjoyable experiences down there,” Fowler said. “But we won’t knowingly walk into a hate-fest.”

I agree with Hyman it is meant in good fun, and I’ll admit I’m one of the 25,000, and it is rather enjoyable. Hyman was right not talk with ESPN before putting up the site, you think I talk with teams or athletes before posting anything here? In my opinion, ESPN and Corso are getting what they deserve. It seems Corso can dish it out but is rather reluctant to take it. The hate-fest comment is asinine. No one will attack you here. Besides I thought Corso loved to be hated. I know I do. ;) I’m willing to bet ESPN will be at the LSU-USC game this year, just so Corso can make comments and feel safe about it. He’s such a douche.

So I profess on this day 9/14/07.

Goodell Tells Bill Belichick He Has to be the Dumbest Spy Since ‘Spies Like Us” was Released & Levels the Punishment

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on September 14, 2007

When I first heard the news about Patriots coach Bill Rosenberg Belichick being a spy, I admittedly couldn’t believe it, I was wrong. See? there I said it…errr typed it, so to speak. It seems Bill Belichick was breaking NFL league rules and was spying on opposing defenses. Yesterday he said he was sorry, but also showed that he isn’t the brilliant coach everyone thought he was.

“Patriots coach Bill Belichick apologized twice yesterday - first to his players in a morning meeting and then via a written statement - as he awaits a ruling from commissioner Roger Goodell on the videotape incident that took place in Sunday’s game against the Jets at Giants Stadium.

But what exactly he was apologizing for is unclear.

“Earlier this week, I spoke with Commissioner Goodell about a videotaping procedure during last Sunday’s game and my interpretation of the rules,” Belichick said in the statement. “At this point, we have not been notified of the league’s ruling. Although it remains a league matter, I want to apologize to everyone who has been affected, most of all ownership, staff, and players. Following the league’s decision, I will have further comment.”

OK, first things first. I feel an apology to the fans are in order. I’m not a Patriots fan, never have been. I’m surprised I’m still a Red Sox fan, after my ex cheated on me with some dude from Boston. She eventually moved up there. From what I heard he cheated on her later…must be something in the water there. As I was saying the fans deserve an apology.

Now here comes the fun stuff:

The league’s game operations manual states that “no video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches’ booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game.” Teams are allowed to record games, but the manual also states that “all video shooting locations must be enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead.”

In addition, Ray Anderson, the league’s head of football operations, sent a memo to head coaches and general managers Sept. 6, 2006, that read: “Videotaping of any type, including but not limited to taping of an opponent’s offensive or defensive signals, is prohibited on the sidelines, in the coaches’ booth, in the locker room, or at any other locations accessible to club staff members during the game.”

The rule is in place to prevent teams from gaining a competitive advantage by learning an opponent’s signals. For example, a videotape of an assistant coach’s hand signals could be matched with the overhead photos of each play that are available to teams during a game. In other words, a quarterback might know exactly what to expect from a defense (such as if a blitz is called).

Coach just how did you “interpret” the rules outside of that? It’s pretty damn clear. I’m not a football coach, but I clearly can comprehend what I read. Quit embarrassing yourself, you’re only making it worse.

I e-mailed sheriff Goodell my suggestions as to what the punishment for Bill Rosenberg Belichick should be, it seems he didn’t listen to my advice. Therefore, I’m going back to ripping on him. Psshh I would rip him even if he did listen to my advice, who am I kidding?

“New England coach Bill Belichick was fined the NFL maximum of $500,000 Thursday and the Patriots were ordered to pay $250,000 for videotaping an opponent’s offensive and defensive signals.

Commissioner Roger Goodell also ordered the team to give up next year’s first-round draft choice if it reaches the playoffs and second- and third-round picks if it doesn’t.

“This episode represents a calculated and deliberate attempt to avoid longstanding rules designed to encourage fair play and promote honest competition on the playing field,” Goodell said in a letter to the Patriots.”

Sheriff Goodell, the public has stood by you while you punished Pac Man Jones, even though he has yet to be convicted of anything and while you no commented though the Vick scandal. Everyone believes you’re a tough man and not some pansy girlie man, like my this one guy I work with. So “man up G” the Patriots should be punished as an organization this I agree with, but Bill Rosenberg Belichick and any of his coaching staff that knew what was happening should be punished more severely, by banning them from the league all together. Monetary fines in a situation like this are a joke. The thought they will lose a first round draft pick if they don’t make the playoffs, or lose the second & third picks if they do make the playoffs, is utterly ridicules This is a question of ethics and integrity. The NFL has no place for cheaters. You could have sent a strong message, there was your chance. Now more than ever people will be questioning the integrity of the league moving forward. This was your first real test Sheriff Goodell, going against something and someone that isn’t an average thug, and you failed.

So I profess on this day 9/14/07.
