South Carolina’s Emanuel Cook has a Date With “The Man” in January

Here’s an update on Emanuel
Lewis “The Terminator” Cook. If you remember Cook was arrested for gun unlawful possession of a pistol in August, which is a felony. Of course being the strict disciplinarian that Steve God Spurrier is, Cook was suspended for less than a week. Now Cook must face the “The Man” to start the new year off in 2008. I wonder if opposing teams will ask that he be searched for weapons before lining up across from him.
“South Carolina starting safety Emanuel Cook had a court date set for Jan. 24 after his arrest on a weapons charge.
Cook, 19, of Riviera Beach, Fla., was arrested Aug. 24 and charged with unlawful possession of a pistol, according to a police report. The felony charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in jail. He could also be fined as much as $2,000, said Lowell Bernstein, Cook’s attorney.
At his next appearance at the Richland County Courthouse, Cook is expected to either enter a guilty plea or select a jury trial.
After Cook’s arrest, he was quickly suspended from the university — a standard penalty for anyone involved in a gun crime, according to school policy.“

I wonder why Cook isn’t using the high powered Neal “Johnnie Cochran Jr.” Lourie, who seems to be the official USC football team attorney. Maybe Neal is getting set to represent OJ Simpson. In any event I’m willing to bet he will take a plea deal come January. Anyone else notice how the date is set after football season? If Cook is found or pleas guilty, is it fair that he was allowed to play this season? That question might will be raised in January.
So I profess on this day 9/18/07.
