Either Nebraska’s Callahan is to Stupid to See the Writing on the Wall or He’s a Compete Genius.

Nebraska head football coach, Bill Callahan, is not having a good season. As he is preparing his team for the “Lame Duck Head Coaches Bowl 2007″ against Coach Fran & the Texas A&M Aggies, his number one supporter & BFF Steve Pederson was fired from his position of athletic director. Callahan showing his political prowess refuses to comment on his former boss still contends that in fact he’s doing a good job and everything is fine. I wonder what the real ruler of Cornhusker land, Tom Osborne, is going to say to Callahan since he’s now the interim AD.

“A day after the man who hired him was fired, embattled Nebraska coach Bill Callahan insisted he won’t be resigning anytime soon.

Callahan said Tuesday that he didn’t know how the dismissal of athletic director Steve Pederson would affect his job status. The fourth-year coach said he was saddened by Pederson’s firing, but he sidestepped questions about whether he felt responsible for it.

“I feel responsible for the results of this program,” Callahan said. “I feel responsible for a lot of things, good and bad. Ultimately, it lies on my shoulders to provide the results you have to provide.”

Callahan said his confidence in his own abilities haven’t been shaken.

“I know in my heart of hearts I’m doing an excellent job, a good job,” Callahan said.

He said his self-evaluation was based on more than the wins and losses.

“It’s everything that has to do with organization, preparation, game-planning, direction of the staff, direction of the whole, entire program. I have no hesitation about that,” he said. “There are so many things we’ve done in a positive nature. I’m confident we’ve done some great things here.”

If your heart of hearts is actually telling you that, then your heart is a liar. If your game planning means giving up 40+ points in three straight games then hey you’re rocking. Unfortunately for you this is a business and as a business you need to keep the customers (the fans) happy and in that regard you’re failing miserably.

“It’s unfortunate we’re in a championship game last year in December, and here we are struggling,” Callahan said. “It happens. Why it happens? Boy, I wish I could tell you all the reasons. We know we’re struggling more than what normal teams do when they are struggling because we’ve given up a lot of points and a lot of yards. That’s where the hurt lies.”

The firing of Pederson on Monday increases the heat on Callahan.

“Our players are looking now at our coaching staff to see what type of mood and attitude we bring to the meetings and to the field,” Callahan said. “It’s very important they see us in a positive light.”

The Huskers are 26-18 overall in Callahan’s four seasons, 14-14 against the Big 12, 3-8 against teams in the Top 25 and 0-6 against the top 10.

Callahan was Pederson’s fourth choice after Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Al Saunders, Arkansas coach Houston Nutt and Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer all withdrew their names from consideration.

Trust me Houston Nutt is regretting not taking the job. The firing of your biggest supporter should have been a clear message. While 26-18 is above .500 it isn’t good enough for a program that is rich with the tradition of winning such as Nebraska. The genius part that Callahan is showing is the fact it will cost the school more than 3 million dollars to fire him so why man up and the honorable thing such as step down. I have nothing against Callahan personally, but some men just can’t coach. Maybe he can land a job as an assistant somewhere. I’m sure Baylor will be hiring one soon.

So I profess on this day 10/17/07.

Dick Vitale Doesn’t Like Nick Saban

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on October 17, 2007

Dick Vitale strikes me as a man who could meet someone that was on death row for a horrible crime and still find good in that person. So when he rips Saban it just furthers my belief that Saban is really Satan with feathered Bama bangs.

So I profess on this day 10/17/07.
